FOX - Currency Switcher for WooCommerce

PayPal Currency Codes

PayPal accepts a fixed list of currencies, and it is shorter than the list of currencies you can add to WooCommerce. A currency PayPal does not support cannot be used to complete a PayPal payment, whatever the shop is configured with.

What this means for your shop

Adding a currency to FOX is not the same as being able to take money in it. Two things have to line up: the currency exists in your FOX settings, and the gateway you offer for it can settle in it.

When they do not line up, the customer reaches checkout and the payment fails — which is the worst possible place to find out. The way to avoid it entirely is payment gateway rules per currency: PayPal is simply not offered for a currency it cannot process, and another gateway takes its place.

Currency codes

PayPal identifies currencies by their three-letter ISO 4217 code — the same codes FOX uses. So a currency added correctly in FOX will match PayPal's expectation without any translation, as long as it is on PayPal's list.

Check the list before adding a currency you intend to take payments in, not after. It changes over time, and PayPal also applies per-country restrictions on top of the currency list.

Reference: the current official list is in the PayPal developer documentation. See also accepted PayPal currencies.
